Offertory In Eb Minor - "Lent Reflection" (Organ Solo)
Download Includes: PDF of Organ Score
This is a solemn, reflective piece, appropriate for a time such as Lent,
for solo organ. It is quite easy to play, and the pedal part is simple.
It opens with a statement of a simple contemplative melodic idea, an
ascending and descending minor scale with a couple of skips, played
in sixths. The left hand accompanies in fourths which are staggered
with the right hand to minimize the sense of meter (though the beat
should be steady).
From there, the tempo picks up, and the different voices are set in
staggered motion with one another. The rising pedal bassline creates
rising tension, as the melody warps to it. Eventually, we reach the
pedal tone for a buildup into a return of the main theme with some
minor changes to round out the ending.
