How Great Thou Art (Band and Singer)
Download Includes: PDF’s of Full Score and All Parts
This is an arrangement of a personal favorite hymn tune
using Carl Boberg's late 19th century Sweedish Poem,
translated to English. It features three of the four original
stanzas.
The foci of this arrangement are the lead vocals and the
beautiful baritone acoustic guitar. The instrumental
accompaniment is quite simple, and relies more on the
beauty of the original tune and quality of the performers
to shine rather than on rhythmic or harmonic tricks.
The piece begins with the soloist and guitar alone, gradually
adding more voices and instruments. Eventually, everyone
except the singers (and the triangle) drop out for a big
acapella moment, followed by a big Tutti ending with
a marching snare pattern and crashing cymbals!
The Tenor voice part is optional and may be ommitted. The
most important backing vocals are the female voices,
followed by the bass and lastly the tenor.
Orchestration
Lead Vox - Baritone (C#3-E4)
Descant - Soprano (Up to high B)
Backing Vox - SAB (Opt. T)
Guitar - Baritone Acoustic (B Standard)
Keyboard (Mostly E.P.)
Electric Bass (opt. Upright)
Percussion (Sus. Cym, Tri, opt. Crash)
Drums (Brushes, Sticks)
